Tim McGraw‘s hit song that touched people around the world, “Humble and Kind,” has now taken its ability to impact the human race one step further. The track that Lori McKenna wrote for her children as a solo effort has now been translated to Spanish with McGraw giving a riveting, outside his comfort zone performance.
McGraw addressed the re-recording of the single in an interview with Billboard, explaining how the song can cross geographical boundaries with its beautiful message.
It’s one thing to say I’m “being universal,” and it’s another thing for me to try to reach out across a language barrier and put in the effort to deliver that same message. To make someone understand that you’re trying to love them through a song and work to make people feel it is a pretty cool thing. My Spanish may not be perfect, but if I can reach out and touch someone in a language that’s not my own — that’s good enough to try.
Argentine producer, composer, and singer Claudia Brant took on the project of translating the song. Though the lyrics do not translate word-for-word (as most translations do not), McGraw credits Brant for capturing the essence of the message written by McKenna and portrayed by the superstar recording artist.
In songwriting, language has to rhyme and fit into the phrasing of the melody, so the song doesn’t translate exactly word for word. But Claudia Brant did an incredible job of translating the sentiment and heart of “Humble and Kind” into “Nunca Te Olvides de Amar.”
