Thomas Rhett stopped by The Today Show yesterday to perform a concert in the streets of New York City. Rhett gave the excited crowd a taste of his Hometown Tour, sharing his biggest hits with those who camped out all night to get an up close glimpse of the rising country music superstar.
While there, with wife Lauren Akins and new daughter Willa Gray in tow, he also spent some time with meteorologist Al Roker in the kitchen. Rhett stripped out of his t-shirt and put on an apron for the occasion, lending a hand to Roker as he made maple buttercream cupcakes with bacon. His job was fairly simple, yet hugely important, as the No. 1 singer-songwriter was given the task of glazing the chunks of bacon with a maple concoction. Based on Willa Gray’s response to the situation involving her dad and a mixing bowl, it appears Rhett will need to repeat the recipe at home for the ladies in his life.
Rhett’s new single, “Craving You,” featuring Maren Morris and penned by Dave Barnes and Julian Bunetta, is currently climbing the charts. Rhett and Morris were last detected in the No. 9 position on the Mediabase chart, continuing to increase in spins and pass its competition. The song serves as Rhett’s lead single off his third studio album, for which no details have been announced.
Rhett and his wife, Lauren Akins, recently adopted the precious Willa Gray, which surprisingly ended up overlapping with their own pregnancy. After bringing their precious little girl home, the couple announced a second daughter would be joining their crew on or around August 8. While they have a name picked out for their first biological child, mum’s the word for the Akins clan — at least until one of them slips and tells us the news on a social media post.
