Houston native Curtis Braly is a singer and a songwriter, he even has a few of his own songs on his new album, You Matter.
There are also songs on the project from other writers, Braly explains, “I accept songs from other writers that I didn’t have a hand in as well. Sometimes, songs come across my desk that are way too good to pass up!”
Growing up in a home where country music was playing every day, and family trips had the soundtrack of country radio, the singer knew he wanted to sing country music very early on. “I always loved how country music was so great at storytelling.”
The artist calls his sound, “Modern country with a traditional flair.” He names Reba and Garth as two of his greatest influences, saying, “They are both amazing at capturing an audience in their LIVE shows and bringing a song to life. Not to mention they are just good hearted, down to earth people.”
When asked what song he wishes he wrote Braly replied, “If I absolutely have to narrow it down to one, I’d go with “Take it Back” by Reba. I like the attitude and saxophone is my favorite instrument.”
A couple of career highlights include receiving declarations from the City of Houston Mayor as well as the City of Humble Mayor each declaring a day named after him. August 8th is Curtis Braly Day in Houston, and October 14th is Curtis Braly Day in Humble.
Braly’s dream gig would be to either open or sing a duet with Reba. “I could die a happy man after that. :-)”
For a pre-show warm up the singer spends the last 30 minutes before his set alone. “It’s an opportunity to do a bit of meditating and get in the right state of mind to put on a good show.”
He’s sat down with a couple of record labels, which he tells CountryCommon was “exciting and nerve wracking at the same time. They don’t hold back whatsoever and can be brutally honest. With that said, I welcome the positive criticism.”
Curtis and his current band hit the road as the openers for Tanya Tucker in the summer of 2016. “That was a fantastic experience. Always nice to share the road and get some advice from someone who’s been around the circuit a while.”
