Last night, Tennessee native Justin Timberlake took the stage at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville as part of his Man of the Woods 2018 Tour. It should come as no surprise that people were abuzz about the show itself (as well as the insane traffic it produced), especially a cameo that many likely foresaw.
Since the 2015 CMA Awards, Timberlake and one of the winningest country artists of our generation, Chris Stapleton, have been friends publicly. The two slayed Timberlake’s “Drink You Away” together on the live broadcast almost three years ago, kicking off a string of joint performances. Last night in Nashville, the two decorated artists added to their collaboration resume, as Stapleton surprised the pack house as an on-stage guest.
Before Stapleton was “dismissed” from the stage, Timberlake made a point to tell him that he can’t get away before they sing one particular song. This announcement immediately excited the crowd, as they anticipated the two would break into Stapleton’s beloved “Tennessee Whiskey.”
Sure enough, the country music Male Vocalist of the Year and the ultra-talented, incredibly respected and loved pop star performed a duet of the track that appears on Stapleton’s acclaimed Traveller album.
Timberlake’s Man of the Woods album was released in January of this year, and features Stapleton on the track “Say Something,” which served as his third single from the project. The song debuted at No. 9 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, becoming Timberlake’s nineteenth Top 10 single as a solo artist and Stapleton’s first.
