She’s baaaack!

Today, country music’s reigning princess, Carrie Underwood, officially returned from her brief sabbatical with the release of her new single, “Cry Pretty.” As promised by Underwood, the song was available to fans at 6:00am ET this morning in the form of a download and a lyric video.

Underwood wrote the power ballad with the acclaimed Love Junkies (Hillary Lindsey, Lori McKenna, and Liz Rose), and will be performing the song on this weekend’s ACM Awards. Further, she wrote a letter to her fans on her official fan club page, sharing information about the song and how it came about:

The first single is a song I love so much and can’t wait to share with you. It’s called “Cry Pretty” and I wrote it with three incredible women: Hillary Lindsey, Liz Rose, and Lori McKenna, who also write under the name Love Junkies. I joined one of their writing sessions last year to see if we could come up with some magic…and we did! The title refers to when emotions take over and you just can’t hold them back. It really speaks to a lot of things that have happened in the past year and I hope when you hear it, you can relate those feelings to those times in your life. It’s emotional. It’s real. And it ROCKS!

Prior to the release of “Cry Pretty,” Underwood experienced unexpected success with her Winter Olympics-specific jam “The Champion,” also becoming the unofficial theme song for the Super Bowl.

Though Underwood has been spending time taking “forced relaxation,” as she referred to it on her fan page, she has certainly not been gone or forgotten. Now, with her confidence rebuilding since her November accident and a new magical song in her hands, it seems as though one of the best vocalists of our lifetime is back in action.

And we are SO stoked!
